Medical Imaging Team Day
FIRST MEDICAL IMAGING TEAM DAY CELEBRATED ON MAY 17, 2012
Ottawa, May 7, 2012 – The first Medical Imaging Team Day is taking place on May 17, 2012 in Ottawa. The day will serve to celebrate the contribution that the imaging team, comprised of physicians, physicists, sonographers and technologists, makes to the Canadian healthcare system. Medical Imaging Team Day will also serve as a platform to inform Canadians about medical imaging procedures and the professions involved in the delivery of these procedures.
Many Canadians have, or know someone who has, undergone a medical imaging procedure. It is one of the fastest-growing medical specialties today and yet most people know very little about medical imaging, including its benefits and risks. Medical imaging examinations include X-ray, MRI, CT scan, ultrasound and nuclear medicine.
Medical Imaging Team Day will help to educate Canadians about medical imaging and the many different professionals working together to ensure that medical imaging is a safe and used appropriately.
On Medical Imaging Team Day, representatives of the team will release a paper that addresses the complex issues involved in promoting and implementing the highest standards forappropriate use of medical imaging in Canada. The release will take place at a press conference in the Charles Lynch Room, Centre Block, Parliament Hill, Ottawa, at 12:30 p.m. on May 17. The conference is hosted by MP Pat Davidson. The team will also hold private meetings with senators and members of parliament to begin discussions on how the already high quality of diagnosis and treatment of disease and injury can be continuously improved through collaboration between Canadian decision makers and healthcare professionals.
