Sylvia Fedoruk Prize in Medical Physics

Dr. Sylvia O. Fedoruk, a Medical Physicist who gave 35 years of dedicated and distinguished service to the Saskatchewan Cancer Program, retired in December, 1986. On the occasion of Dr. Fedoruk's retirement, the Board of the Cancer Foundation announced the establishment of the Sylvia Fedoruk Prize in Medical Physics in her honor and in recognition of her contribution. Dr. Fedoruk's quality leadership was not restricted to the cancer program but extended to have a positive influence in the medical physics community, her city, province and country. These leadership qualities were epitomized in 1988 when she became Saskatchewan's 17th Lieutenant Governor.

This annual award is presented to the author selected as having published the best paper in Medical Physics in the preceding year, and must relate to work carried out within a Greekinstitution. An anonymous selection committee, appointed jointly by The Greek College of Physicists in Medicine and The Greek Organization of Medical Physics, reviews the entries and recommends the successful candidates.

Harold Johns Travel Award

The Board of The Greek College of Physicists in Medicine is pleased to honour the Founding President of the College by means of the Harold Johns Travel Award for Young Investigators. This award, which is currently in the amount of $1,500, is made to a College member under the age of 35 who has been a member for not more than three years. The award is intended to assist the individual to extend his or her knowledge by travelling to another centre or institution with the intent of gaining further experience in his or her chosen field or, alternatively, to embark on a new field of endeavour in medical physics.
