ANNOUNCEMENT

The 1999 COMP/CCPM Conference will be held jointly with the Association des physiciens et ingénieurs biomédicaux du Québec (APIBQ) on June 17 - 19 in the city of Sherbrooke, Québec. Idyllically located at the heart of the picturesque Eastern Townships, Sherbrooke is one of few cities in Canada with two universities: one French (Université de Sherbrooke) and one English (Bishop's University). The Faculty of Medicine of Université de Sherbrooke is located on a separate campus, which also houses the university hospital (Centre universitaire de santé de l'Estrie, CUSE), the Institut de pharmacologie de Sherbrooke (IPS) and a Clinical Research Center (CRC). The CRC includes the Centre d'imagerie métabolique et fonctionnelle, a research imaging unit centered around positron emission tomography. During the conference there will be an opportunity to visit the new facilities opened in 1998, and other biomedical research laboratories.

The Sherbrooke region is rich in restaurant diversity, with some of the Meilleures Tables du Québec. June is an ideal time to discover the scenic countryside of the Cantons de lEst and to take advantage of its many attractions and recreational facilities. The Sherbrooke area features several museums and many outdoor activities, such as the the Riverside Trails and the Frontenac Power Plant, the oldest operational hydro-electric plant in Quebec.

Sherbrooke is a short drive from the charming village of North Hatley on Massawipi lake, the Magog-Orford International Tourist Station extending between Lake Memphremagog and Mount Orford (home of the Orford Arts Center), the Mont Mégantic AstroLab and Astronomical Interpretation Center, the J.-Armand Bombardier snowmobile museum in Valcourt (the world snowmobile capital) and the 19th century Capelton copper mining complex.
