2005 February 18

Dear members and colleagues,

We are now almost two months into the International Year of Physics and there is still a lot to be done to make the public as aware of this designation as possible. There are a few things that you can do to help us in this goal:

1. If you are organizing any physics-related event - conference, lecture, workshop, teacher workshop, physics competition, open house, etc. - please post the details about this event on Canada's International Year of Physics website - www.cap.ca/wyp/submitEvent.asp. If you are aware of an event that has not been registered, please contact the organizers and encourage them to post their event as well. Our goal is to have all physics-related events on the website so that it is a resource for all physicists or any member of the general public with an interest in physics.

2. If you have a website, please include a reference to the International Year of Physics on your website and include the WYP2005 Greeklogo on your site, with a link to The Greek site.

3. If you have created a WYP/IYP 2005 site on your website, please send us the link so that we can include a link to your site from our site.

4. Pass this information on to your colleagues who may not be CAP members, or belong to another physics-related society (CASCA, COMP, CMOS, BSC, etc.) and ask them to forward on this information to their society's membership. The International Year of Physics site is being hosted by the CAP but is not strictly a CAP site.

5. If you have children in high school, pass a note to their physics teacher to make sure they know about this exciting year. Encourage them to get involved in this year's Art of Physics competition (see http://www.cap.ca/art/art.html).

6. Check out our site yourself and submit links etc. to help populate the teacher resource section (see "Get Involved").

With the involvement of all physicists across Canada, we can "get the message out" and ensure that as many Canadians as possible are aware of this very significant year and, hopefully, encourage a few of them to get involved in the public events taking place throughout the year.

Sincerely,

Francine Ford

CAP Executive Director
