J.R. Cunningham Young Investigators Symposium (YIS) COMP/CCPM 2005.

Three Awards will be presented for the best Young Investigator papers at the conference. The Awards consist of a certificate and a cheque in the amount of $300, $200, and $100 for First, Second, and Third place respectively.

Eligibility Requirements:
  • The applicant must be a member of COMP at the time of application and must be either a graduate student or a recent graduate (with graduate degree awarded after January 2005).

  • A letter of eligibility is required from the student's supervisor giving student's name, degree sought/completed, and institution. Incomplete applications (missing signed support letter, incomplete form, etc.) WILL NOT be considered.

  • The appropriate box must be checked on the submission form.

  • Submissions will be screened, limiting the number of participants to a maximum of ten. This screening will be based on the scientific content as presented in the submitted Abstract and concise communication for the Proceedings. It is important, therefore, that this material contain sound results. Statements such as "a series of measurements will be made" or "data will be obtained" could result in a lower score. Applicants working in large groups should present their contribution to the project. Please note that the score from this screening will also be used in the final competition with ~30% of the final score coming from the scientific content as presented in the submitted material. Those papers that are not selected for the YIS competition will be considered for inclusion elsewhere in the scientific program.

  • A maximum of four young investigators will be selected from an institution. Institutions may, therefore, choose to prescreen their candidates.

  • Previous winners of a COMP Young Investigator Award are ineligible to compete again.

Panel: A panel of 6-8 judges, with at least two judges from each sub-specialty, will judge the Young Investigators Symposium.

Part of the score for the competition will come from the screening process as outlined above. The remainder of the score will be based on the scientific content, as presented during the talk, and on the quality of presentation. The winners of the J.R. Cunningham Young Investigators Awards will be announced at the Conference Banquet.

Travel Assistance: COMP will waive the registration fee of all ten finalists of the Young Investigators Symposium

Questions regarding the Young Investigators' Awards may be directed to the Chair of the COMP Awards Committee ([email protected]).
